Links
When planning our trip to Spain the following links were incredibly helpful.
- Maribel’s Guides – in-depth guides to various regions and cities in Spain
- Movelia – a website that aggregates schedules and prices for multiple bus companies in Spain
- Renfe – the Spanish train system
Tips
- Buses are often cheaper in Spain. We used buses exclusively because they were cheaper and offered more convenient schedules for us. In the smaller towns they were often the only option. We used Vibasa, Alsa, and La Estellesa. We used Movelia to find the tickets and then booked directly with the bus companies.
- Hostels in Spain are often just as nice and pretty much always less expensive than hotels. There are also several companies that run stylish and cheap apartment services, like Barcelona30.
- The best tip I received when planning our trip was to not try to see it all. Spain is a huge and diverse country and trying to pack it all in on one whirlwind trip would not do it justice. We plan to go back at least twice – once to combine the north and San Sebastian with southern France and one for Madrid and Andalusia. We’d also love to return to Barcelona some day. We had four days in the city and still don’t feel like we saw enough, plus we didn’t make it any of our planned day trips!
